Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the communication strategies used by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in addressing student lateness during parallel learning sessions at SMA Negeri 3 Kota Sorong. Student lateness has become a significant issue that affects the effectiveness of the learning process, leading to decreased concentration, disrupted classroom atmosphere, and loss of instructional time. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of the PAI teacher, and several class XI students. The results show that the PAI teacher applied a persuasive communication strategy by providing gentle advice, demonstrating discipline through ecemplary behavior, and linking the importance of punctuality with Islamic teachings. In additon, the teacher implemented a behavioral approach using the shaping technique. This strategy proved effective in fostering student’s self-awareness and sense of responsibility without creating psychological pressure. Therefore, the communication strategy used by the PAI teacher not only helped, reduce student lateness but also contributed to developing discipline, responsibility, and moral character in line with the goals of Islamic Religous Education.
