Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the ‘Aisyiyah organization in advancing Islamic education in Southwest Papua, a region characterized by complex geographical, demographic, and sociocultural conditions. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive-exploratory approach, the research examines the history of the establishment of ‘Aisyiyah in Sorong, evaluates the educational programs implemented, and assesses its impact on improving the quality of Islamic education, particularly among Muslim minority communities. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with key informants, direct observations, and document reviews.The findings reveal the significant role of ‘Aisyiyah in providing access to Islamic education, especially through the establishment of Taman Kanak-Kanak Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal (TK ABA) in 1972, even before the organization was officially formed. In addition to formal education, ‘Aisyiyah also carries out programs that empower women and children, promote urban agriculture, and conduct community-based health projects. Female leadership within the organization has been one of the main factors contributing to its success in facing various challenges in Southwest Papua.This study highlights the importance of participatory and culturally sensitive approaches in developing inclusive and sustainable Islamic education. The findings provide valuable implications for creating fairer and more efficient educational policies in remote areas.
